The EU’s ReFuelEU aviation and FuelEU maritime proposals aim to increase sustainable fuel usage in aviation and marine sectors to reduce emissions. They require suppliers to gradually increase sustainable fuel shares, airlines to use sustainable fuels and avoid excess weight, and vessels to reduce greenhouse gas intensity and connect to onshore power. Benefits include a level playing field, increased sustainable fuel production, and eco-responsible transport. The proposals have reached a provisional agreement and await formal approval.
