Climate Clock Ticking in Prague – The Countdown to Irreversible Climate Disaster

A clock in Letná park in Prague is counting down the time until the point of no return for irreversible climate change. The countdown began on November 30th with a time of 6 years, 235 days, and 53 minutes remaining.

The large clock, which stands 8 meters tall and is 35 meters wide, is located near the Metronome on the pedestal where a statue of Stalin used to be.

It was installed by the organization behind the Freedom Festival (Festival svobody), which also commemorates the fight for freedom and democracy on November 17th. The clock is meant to remind Czech citizens, including politicians, of the dangers of climate change. According to scientists, there are less than seven years left until the average global temperature increases by 1.5 degrees Celsius, a point of no return.

The clock has a glowing display on the left that shows the number of years and days remaining and another display on the right that shows the hours, minutes, and seconds. Initially, the lights flashed and then the words “epilogue of the earth” and “time is rushing” were displayed.
