Ecological Footprint – Count With It to Reduce It!

If you’re wondering how big your footprint is, you can get a rough idea by using an online calculator (we recommend the one by WWF), which, will give you an approximate figure, even if it doesn’t take into account all data we mentioned in our previous post.

If you want to lower this (further, because we know you already do your best), there are a number of ways you can do so by changing your habits a little. 

  • Housing has the biggest impact, and is the hardest to change, but energy-saving devices can go a long way to reducing our impact on the environment – and of course lowering our utility bills.
  • Transport comes second. But we can have a bigger impact if we sacrifice a little of our time and comfort. Driving is incomparably more damaging to the environment than public transport, let alone if you don’t leave your home but work remotely and shop online.
  • For the latter, it is also worth looking at where a product comes from. The closer it’s been produced, the better for the environment. 
  • Again, it’s hard to change our diets, but even small steps can make a big difference: if you like meat, just eating something different once in a while or trying the newer alternatives, which can be found now even at the biggest burger chains, can make a big difference.
  • At the end of the consumption chain is waste management. We’re always striving to produce as little waste as possible by buying products with as environmentally friendly packaging as possible, and preferably only as much as we can actually use or consume until the ‘best before’ date.
